JULY MISSION PLOTTING
![]() ⏵ mission prep ⏴ On the morning of July 19th, a glowing purple portal opens up on Etraya just outside of the apartment building. Characters will be ushered out of their apartments, living quarters, or other areas by companion bots and instructed to continue through the portal. On their way through the portal, they are handed a small slip of paper with an address, and their family assignments listed below the address. Through the portal, characters will find themselves in the city bubble that had been visible from the sky of Etraya. Rather than the empty space as Etraya had been when they first arrived, this one appears to be an idyllic suburban residential area: houses that are identical outside their pastel colors line the streets, numerous vehicles are parked alongside houses, or just outside their garages. As characters approach their assigned houses, some will find a basket just outside their doorstep, with a small note attached. “Hello! Give me a name and raise me, please!” In the basket, is a child. Or, something close to one: a doll that cries every couple hours until it’s cared for, a very realistic android that mimics the behavior of a newborn, or perhaps it’s an android that’s shaped like a newborn puppy or kitten, with all the needs of a real child. If they are receiving a player character as a child, that child will receive the same note as the rest of the characters, but led to their temporary dwellings by one of Aurora's companion bots and told to wait for their arrival, if they have not arrived first. The mission parameters are simple: family units are to live together peacefully and act like a real family. Whether that means raising a young ‘baby’ together or caring for one of the younger player characters as if they are their own, they are to coexist on this new planet together as if they had always belonged within these familial units. Welcome to life in a middle-class, suburban residential area. ![]() ⏵ welcome to moorecroft village ⏴ Moorecroft Village, the name for the area characters have been dropped into, is rather peaceful. Surprisingly, player characters are not the only ones residing in the village. ‘Natives’ occupy several of the houses. However, it won’t take more than a few exchanged words to discover that the people here are in the same boat as the characters from Etraya: they are from other worlds, dropped onto this planet to try and convince Echo to save their home worlds. Unlike Etraya, those on this planet are immediately assigned houses and family units to cohabitate with. A few of them have been on the planet for several years, and have adjusted to how life is on the planet: every few weeks, their own AI, Eos will assign them a mission to complete. They will complete their mission, and return home to their family unit until the next mission is assigned. Some are newer, too: ones who arrived just before the citizens of Etraya were dropped into their world. Some seem settled, some are bewildered by their circumstances and angry at having been left here. ![]() ⏵ submerged in suburbia ⏴ Characters will be expected to fully integrate themselves into the world of Moorecroft Village. They will be expected to raise their new ‘children’, taking care of their mental, physical, and emotional needs, while also participating in happenings around town. They’ll be assigned a normal ‘job’ to work around town, whether they know how to work that job or not. A calendar will be placed in the kitchens of their homes noting important events happening throughout the week, and they will also receive a checklist of tasks they need to complete before returning to Etraya. Examples of tasks could be:
In addition to their to-do list, there is a very strict curfew of 8PM. They will be warned that those who are not in their assigned housing units by 8PM will experience serious repercussions, and it's best for everyone if they choose to obey the rules of this world. There are no companion bots native to Moorecroft Village out during the day. They come out after curfew to "clean up". This can include 'cleaning up' anyone who happens to still be outside when they shouldn't be. ![]() ⏵ spooky vibes ⏴ Not everything is as it seems. While it may appear idyllic during daytime hours, it's clear there is something more going on here. The residents are terrified of being found outside after curfew, rushing home if they realize they're running even a few moments late. Curtains are automatically shut during the nighttime, and while they can be reopened, characters will find the windows pitch black and their doors locked from the outside - regardless of if they had even gotten over there to close them. Noises can be heard coming from outside that don't sound... normal by any means. Croaks, whispers, scratches against doors and walls alike. But when the sun comes back up, the doors unlock, the windows brighten, and everything seems to appear just as perfect as it had the night before - or even more so! The streets have been cleaned, anything broken, scratched, or otherwise damaged has been repaired, and the residents continue to go through their daily tasks. Welcome to our fourth mission! Please comment below to the mod queries thread with any questions related to this mission. All other questions can be directed to the FAQ. There will be three logs going up for this mission! The first will go live on July 19th, when characters are moved onto Moorecroft. The second will go up on July 27th, introducing this round's new applications to their environment, as well as adding some extra things into the setting. The third and final log will go up on August 9th, which will include some ending notes for their time in Moorecroft Village, as well as what happens as they return to Etraya. Please feel free to post your own logs and don't limit yourself to just these! Family units can have up to three adults and two children but as few as one of each. We have sign-ups for family units HERE. Please note any preferences, and be as specific or as unspecific as you would like. If you want Dean and Cas to be partners but want them to try their hand at parenting one of Etraya's youth, you can list those specifications in your comment. If you don't have a partner preference, but a specific character you want yours to parent, you can list that also. We're going to try our best to work with everyone's preferences while still maintaining the original intent behind the mission. You're welcome to edit your comment any time up to July 17th if any of your original plans change, or if you decide you want something else. If you already have a family unit picked out, please put that in your sign-up comment. We will be responding to these comments on July 18th, the day before the mission log itself goes live, to fill in any missing gaps. Characters who are between eighteen and twenty-two can choose between being an adult or a child. This won't be an IC choice, but a player choice! Feel free to pick whichever sounds more fun! If you're signing up for a randomized assignment for one of these characters, please include any preferences one way or the other. Characters below eighteen are considered children. Characters above twenty-two are considered adults. Job assignments will be included in the mod responses on July 18th. More information will be included in future logs. This post will be linked to each log for plotting purposes. |
operation: youthful disobedience
We are good with all of this! Please note that for anyone outside, there are high chances that they will die in their attempts at keeping the bots distracted. We're fine with some of them surviving long enough to get back inside, but the bots will be focused on returning them indoors as quickly as possible, even if it means returning their corpse.
Accelerator, Rin, and Krouse will be approached by something else. As they continue running interference and attempting to keep attention away from those heading to the hospital, they'll find whispy, black tendrils of a smokey substance approaching them. When it first appears, it's small: it will approach them from cracks in the pavement, sewer grates, from inside street lamps, almost curious as to what they could be when it first notices them up and about.
Almost.
Until those small, smokey pieces grow bigger, more terrifying. Accelerator will find that he cannot feel its presence; it doesn't seem like there are vectors to manipulate, and attempts to will not succeed. Instead, it grows bigger; those keeping an eye out magically may notice that whatever this thing is, it's built of pure chaos magic, destruction and creation wrapped into one, and powerful enough outside sources cannot manipulate it.
Tendrils will shape into something large and almost scaley, with several taking the shape of a massive mouth with teeth that look like they hold entire galaxies within them: they are not white, but the kind of empty black that one almost expects to see through, along with numerous stars and galaxies within them. Its jaw opens, and it makes a loud, croaking noise as it drops down low, some of the shapes coming undone as it tries to devour them whole. Numerous bots will be approaching them and the thing coming after them, in an attempt to keep them out of its jaws. Those devoured by the beast will be erased from their timeline altogether, so we would not recommend leaving characters to get eaten by it! You can play with this aspect as much as you would like to, as well as NPC the bots in a way that works for this interaction.
Clarke, Natsuno, and Deku will see something else strange while they're out and about: children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, running around and giggling while playing games of their own. But these children aren't human, they're robotic. Androids built and lovingly maintained by Eos, whose form they may also find: that same too-tall figure the newcomers saw when they first awoke mingles among the children, who remain completely unbothered by the large beast that approaches a few of their companions. The children, upon spotting the three of them, will scream and attempt to run away back towards the hospital, flanked and protected by the bigger bots meant to be maintaining their curfew. Threading with Eos or the older children is possible here, please use the NPC Log if this is wanted. Eos will be furious they are outside, but this may be a good opportunity to get information from the teen androids they wouldn't get elsewhere.
Aang and Sokka will make it inside the hospital but will find that as soon as they are inside, Aang is no longer able to access his bending - like it's locked away inside of him, inaccessible but still very much part of him. They will see yet another teenager: a boy very similar to a friend of theirs, scars included. His focus will be on rendering them unconscious, after which he will imprison them in one of the underground hospital rooms as shown in the mingle log. Struggling too hard will result in their death, and their corpses will be brought to the hospital room instead of them alive. This is another thread opportunity we advise going to the NPC Interactions log for.
Riz and Fabian will make it to the hospital, but not easily. They will be flanked by bots, and likely will not make it without injury. Once inside, they will find that the main elevator's doors are wide open, leaving the elevator shaft clear and visible. It goes down far deeper than the building appears to be. If they choose to investigate, they will pass several locked doors on the way down, as well as a few that are a little easier to get into. Please give us a number between 1 and 10, and we will tell you what they'll find!

But for my part: 2 for the bardy boys, please!
EDIT: And a couple other questions, if you don't mind!
- Will the cameras retain functionality around the robots or inside the hospital so those at home base can see what shenanigans are going on, or will they ~spookily go on the fritz?
- Other people have voiced interest in getting in on this! Is it okay to add them to the pre-existing prompts for Team Distraction? Anyone who is added now would be restricted to being at home, or being a fellow distraction.
Thanks!

Other people are welcome to join in as distractions. Given the number of threads that may spawn off of this, we would prefer if anyone joining in at this point either faces off against the bots on the outside or if they come across the beast, rather than Eos and the android children.
As for the Bardy Boys:
They'll pass a few doors down the elevator shaft before finding one that they're able to open. Outside the elevator's entrance is a long hallway, lit well with LEDS lining the ceiling. Hand-drawn pictures line the walls. The closer to the elevator shaft, the better the pictures get: realistic portraits of those around town, of buildings and trees. The further down the hallway they get, the more. . . amateur-ish they look, until they look like squiggles more than anything else. There are multiple doors in that hallway, leading into multiple personalized rooms. Those close to the elevator look like they're inhabited by older teens, while the deeper they get, the younger the decor appears. There are a few other rooms - one set up with a couch, several bookshelves, a television, and several gaming consoles, and another massive room with a recreation area, meant for playing.
The last room is massive and empty. The walls are visibly made of steel, and there appears to be tracks on the ceiling and floors, leading somewhere beyond the walls.
