SEPTEMBER MISSION PLOTTING

⏵ echoes of fear ⏴

A strange anomaly has begun to affect Etraya. The skies shift colors unpredictably, and the air hums with an eerie, electric tension. Aurora sends out a mission announcement, albeit one that leaves more questions than answers. She also does not, it appears, seem to be available to answer further questions regarding the mission.

Reality bends across Etraya, changing structures into surreal, fear-inducing landscapes.

  • The Hospital becomes a decaying facility, haunted by phantom patients and endless corridors. Some rooms will appear as massive white padded rooms, where characters may find themselves locked away for hours on end, visited only by specters who come to take them to their 'treatments'. Some of these specters seem intent on getting the attention of those still in Etraya, warning them of the danger they face if they do not succeed in their mission: not only will their worlds die, but they will die without them. Rather than being returned in time to be with their family upon their demise, they will be trapped here - in Etraya's universe, far from home.

  • The forested areas towards the outskirts of their city bubble become dark and labyrinthine, filled with the howls of unseen predators, waiting for anyone to step off the pathways through the trees and into their reach. While most may travel these areas unaccosted, some may find themselves violently pulled off their paths and deep into the forests, chased by unseen horrors.

Within the forest, a small cottage has surfaced. Whispers of `little scorpion' 'selfish bitch' 'by the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes' echo throughout the cottage.

  • The river waters become volatile, their currents rough. If one walks too close to them, they may find inky black tendrils reaching out to grab hold of them and drag them under the surface. Characters will find that as long as they do not fight the tendrils pull, they can still breathe. However, if they manage to separate themselves from the creature before it takes them where it wants them to go, they will have to fight their way to the surface. Those who do not fight will be yanked deep down under the surface until the islands are no longer visible. Instead, they will be in a small, covered dome, surrounded by fish of all kinds but far, far below where they should be. Their earpieces will still work and they will be able to communicate with the surface. There is also a large mirror within this dome.

⏵ shadowy haunts ⏴

Once inside one of the zones, characters will come face to face with an echo of fear - a personalized manifestation of what scares them most. It could be an oppressive figure from their past, or something more abstract, such as the feeling of failure, or isolation. These echoes are relentless, feeding off of their weaknesses and digging into what makes them feel most vulnerable.

Characters who fear being abandoned may find all their companions walking away from them and leaving them completely alone. Others who fear death may find themselves confronted with near-death experiences, or being forced to watch those whom they care about die repetitively in front of them while being unable to stop it.

For some, this part will be a mission they must face alone. When they are pulled off into their nightmare, they will not have anyone beside them, no one to face the terror with. Just themselves, and their thoughts. They may, however, still have a functional earpiece on them that will allow them to speak to those they are close to.

They must fight their way out of this nightmare. A character normally afraid of conflict will be forced to learn to stand their ground. Those who are afraid of being left behind will need to trust in their friends to come and pull them out. Those whose strength is their ability to lead may need to call upon comrades and use their combined abilities to free them from their temporary prison.

But they will have to do this while their weaknesses prey on them. While illusions from their past mistakes haunt them, whispering to them about how they'll never be good enough, they won't be able to escape, they are useless, incapable of being anything other than a waste of space.

Those who rely heavily on their magic, or their physical strength, may find some of that strength diminished, forcing them to have to rely on strategy and their wits to free themselves.

⏵ nightmares entwined ⏴

Or perhaps they're not alone. Perhaps they find themselves trapped in their nightmare with their companions - facing the fear of one, but together. They may be in the nightmare belonging to one individual, but the emotional distress will affect everyone present.

For example, if someone's fear is to be abandoned, they may be forced to helplessly watch as darkness devours their friends one by one, disappearing into the shadows while they can do nothing to help. However, their companions may still be present, trapped inside the same nightmare but unable to reach each other without successfully navigating their way through the distorted landscape that has engulfed them. Their earpieces may prove to be essential in guiding them to each other.

⏵ the devourer ⏴

While facing their fears and overcoming them is part of their mission, the anomaly intensifying their emotional response is not. The Im'mari, a small piece of the cosmic horror that had run rampant across Moorecroft, followed them back through the door to Etraya. It has infected the wolves, numerous plants across Etraya, and Vanessa Ives. An ancient and malevolent entity, the chaos-born beast feeds on the very essence of life, often entirely removing others from their timelines as it devours the very thread that ties them to their universe.

Now, weakened but regaining strength, Im'mari seeks to return to its former power by devouring the fears and darkness within those who live in Etraya.

The more characters struggle, the stronger Im'mari becomes. Each time they face their fears, it grows stronger, lurking just beyond the edges of their awareness and feeding off their doubt, their pain, and their moments of despair. Worse yet - with its influence having spread into Vanessa, it's possible others may also become infected with the Im'mari: they, too, may feel the need to make others afraid, angry, push them to their very limits all so Im'mari can grow stronger.

For those who do become infected, the more they allow themselves to be consumed by fear, the deeper Im'mari's hold on them becomes. Eventually, they may succumb fully to the monster's influence, becoming agents of fear who spread its influence to others - or perhaps they too were infected by Vanessa, thus also allowing them to spread the infection among others within Etraya.

At first, the changes will be subtle, difficult to discern. Perhaps a friend seems just a little. . . off. Maybe something they said was slightly out of character, but given the challenges they are currently facing, perhaps it's just related to them facing their own fears. But as Im'mari strengths, so does her agents' influence on others.

"It's easier if you just give in."

"Don't you see? Fear is inevitable. It's part of who you are."

"You're wasting your time fighting me. Let me in. You'll never escape."

Can you trust your friends? What about the others on Etraya? Everyone is here to save themselves and their worlds, after all. Why would they care about yours? Perhaps. . . perhaps they just want you to fail. Perhaps they're out to remove you from the equation. How can you be so certain they aren't?

⏵ contamination ⏴

Those infected will be a crucial part of both the Im'mari plotline and completing the mission as a whole. Im'mari will use the infected to generate more fear, which in turn strengthens it and the illusions others face throughout Etraya. However, the infection itself is reversible if caught in time.

The infection develops in three stages, each with increasing physical and mental side effects:

  • Stage One: The changes are subtle at first - mostly limited to small shifts in their personality. A normally calm individual may become irritable or quick to anger, while a confident character may begin doubting their abilities. These mood changes may be easy to dismiss as stress from the ongoing mission, making it more difficult to spot the infection in its early stages.

  • Stage Two: As the infection deepens, more noticeable physical symptoms start to appear. Characters may find that their eyes begin to glow softly in the dark or that their sclera(the whites of their eyes) turn black when they act in Im'mari's interests. They may also feel a growing desire to provoke fear and despair in others, as Im'mari's influence urges them to push their companions to the edge. At this stage, the infected won't realize they're under control - but obviously, others may notice something is wrong.

  • Stage Three: At this point, the infected individual has fallen almost completely under Im'mari's control. Their eyes now glow constantly, or their sclera are constantly black. Their actions become increasingly erratic, driven by the need to generate fear in those around them. While there may still be a sliver of their true self inside, they are now an agent of Im'mari, actively spreading her influence.

Physical Markings: The infection also manifests physically beneath the skin. The inky black tendrils that may have slipped inside of them at some point will spread through their body and settle in an area where it believes it will not be found easily. It leaves a distinctive galaxy-like mark above the skin, appearing as though a droplet of ink has splattered in the shape of a star-filled void. The mark is small and easily overlooked unless carefully searched for, making it difficult for others to recognize the infection right away. Those that are infected will not notice the mark on themselves but may be able to recognize it on others.

Im'mari holds influence over them, but it does not completely control them - at least, not at first. There are still parts of themselves that others can draw out before it reaches stage three. Fighting off Im'mari's influence will require someone to coax them into realizing they are infected. That there is something off with them. They will need to want to fight it off; the method they use is up to the players! Perhaps it's confronting a personal fear head-on, or simply willing the beast out of them with the support of their companions.

Those assisting the infected may recognize the mark on the infected character's skin where the substance has settled. If they do find it, it may be possible to physically cut out the infection, removing Im'mari's influence from their body. Once removed, the black substance will lay lifeless on the ground, an inert remnant of the creature that once controlled them.

⏵ fear eater ⏴

As the mission progresses through the month, characters will realize the anomaly is not just bending reality but is tied directly to Im'mari. The creature continues to grow stronger, and other buildings will begin to warp to suit. Walls begin to rot, shadows seem to linger unnaturally long, whispers pressed closed to characters' ears telling them how useless their efforts are, that they need to give in, to feed the beast. From out of the corners of their eyes they may spot it: tendrils that first appear to be black and without color, but you could swear you see what looks like entire galaxies imprinted into them. Some may take the shape of mouths towards their ends with massive, pointed teeth. It makes loud, croaking noises, similar to what some may have heard on Moorecroft, but not quite the same. This beast, after all, grew from only a small part of the one roaming free on Moorecroft.

"I can make all of it disappear. Just let me take your fear. All of it."

"You can't win. You never could. They'll all forget you. You're nothing. Nothing."

"You will never save your companions. Give in to me."

"Let me in."

Im'mari feeds on division, fear, doubt, and hatred. To weaken it, characters must not give it what it wants. Without negative emotions to feed on, the Im'mari's influence will lessen. Without hosts to spread those emotions and fuel it further, it will lose its grasp on Etraya and be forced to retreat.

Another means of weakening the Im'mari is by weakening Vanessa.

Vanessa will be easy to locate in the woods around the cottage in October towards the end of the timeline for this plotline! The cairns marking the entrance to the cottage's yard will be painted with blood scorpions, barring those linked to magic or the supernatural, unless their link is to the Im'mari. Anyone else can cross, and objects can go through. With the right means, Vanessa can also be lured out. In her infected state, Vanessa's appearance has changed dramatically. Her sclera have turned black, but her irises glow a fiery red. Shadowy veins now snake beneath her skin, visible reminders of the corruption within. Even her shadow is warped - at times resembling a cobra, and at others, it appears to be a larger version of the Im'mari itself. Small scorpions crawl over her, manifestations of her inner darkness.

Her behavior has become wild and broken, with a feral edge. Knowing that people now see the evil within her, Vanessa has grown resentful, expecting rejection from those around her. In her mind, everyone is a hypocrite, and she views their assumed judgments with bitter anger, believing they are no better than she is.

If confronted, Vanessa may lash out using Verbis Diablo, cursing her attackers with dark incantations similar to the abilities Im'mari uses. However, she needs time to speak the curses - thus giving others a window of opportunity to fight back before she can complete them. If cornered, she may resort to using knives or commanding the scorpions around her. Though dangerous, Vanessa will be significantly easier to overpower than the Im'mari itself, especially given her more human nature.

If they are not able to subdue Vanessa, characters will be forced to confront Im'mari directly. Im'mari will appear as a colossal beast similar to the one that had roamed the streets in Moorecroft, determined to devour entire timelines whole - through characters present on Etraya. It will eat at the thread tethering them to their homes, potentially threatening their ability to save their world.

Abilities the Im'mari may use during this battle include:

  • Psychic attacks
  • Possession of certain individuals.
  • Compulsion to follow it's directives.
  • Illusions of those which characters fear most, made more solid so that they may attack those who refuse to bend the knee.
  • Summoning fear-inducing creatures (deathstalker scorpions and cobras specifically)

  • Defeating it entirely is not possible, but weakening it enough for it to retreat into the depths of the multiverse where it cannot cause damage is. The infection will fade from those it affected, though scars may remain.

Characters who confronted and overcame their fears during the mission may find themselves stronger for it, and more resistant to negative influences.

    ⏵ NOTES ⏴

Aurora, your friendly AI companion, has a mission for the citizens of Etraya. Im'mari, an otherworldly force, seeks to exploit this to its benefit.

Certain areas of Etraya begin to shift their appearance. The hospital decays into a haunted facility with endless corridors and wandering specters. The forest becomes a darn labyrinth where predators lurk, pulling characters off the path. The river waters become volatile, with inky black tendrils dragging characters under the surface to a domed area far beneath the surface.

For the mission, characters must confront their deepest fears. Some characters may face these alone, others may be trapped in shared nightmares. Characters can experience multiple fears for the duration of the mission.

Im'mari followed characters from Moorecroft, and is feeding on fear and darkness to gain strength. It infects living beings, turning them into agents to spread fear. The more characters struggle, the stronger Im'mari becomes.

In addition, Im'mari has bonded with Vanessa Ives, using her memories and abilities to help strengthen it.

Infection happens in three stages; first including subtle changes, and expands up to Im'mari having almost complete control over characters. Infection can be reversed through multiple methods.

Im'mari warps reality further, rotting buildings and spreading darkness. Whispers taunt characters, urging them to give in to fear and doubt while the beast lurks at the edges of their vision. Im'mari feeds on division, fear, and hatred. To weaken it, characters must unite and resist feeding it negative emotions.

If they fail to subdue Vanessa Ives they may have to face the massive beast Im'mari will become. If they succeed, Im'mari will retreat deeper into the crevices of the multiverse. Im'mari's influence will fade, but characters may carry physical, and psychological scars. The physical effects Im'mari causes may be kept after it's gone if players would like! This includes color-changing and glowing eyes.

We don't have a specific time for wrapping this mission up! As noted previously, this may happen sometime between the fourth and eighteenth of October to give players time to interact with it and impact the results of the mission.

Player Name: Jesse
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] cherto | PM | DM through Disco chat
Pacing: I can bounce between boomerang and slow backtagging depending on energy levels. I can make pretty good progress when able to boomerang one thread at a time. Hyperfocus ftw.
Limits: N/A

Character Name: Vanessa Ives
Fear Manifestation:
Being rejected/abandoned. Being alone. Losing control of herself. Feeding into the 'losing control' is giving into her hidden self (Amunet). Hurting or killing loved ones, or failing to protect them. Losing her faith in God (already mostly there). Fulfilling her prophecy and summoning the apocalypse. To that, giving in to WANTING to fulfill the prophecy and just be done with it.

Some settings behind Vanessa's old fears have already manifested in the hospital (asylum memories) and the haunted cottage (witch hunt memories). More might manifest in the form of a burning woman hanging from a tree, bath tubs overflowing with bloody, freezing water, and shadowy figures in the forms of loved ones whispering devilish enticements or condemnation.

She is mainly going to be making the fears of others worse, provoking and magnifying them, but her stuff can be thrown into the mix for extra spice!
Infection Involvement:
Vanessa is Patient Zero for the infection, but because of her connection it has also taken the longest to completely take her over. For most of the event, she'll bounce between moments of clarity and then wanting to spread the infection to others. By the end of the event, she'll be completely taken over by despair, rage, and self-loathing, and along with glowing red irises on black sclear, her veins will appear an inky black, and her shadow will be shifting between a serpent's and tentacles. This connection will also be bringing the dark 'goddess' Amunet closer to the surface.

If you want to say Vanessa infected your character, feel free!
Goals:
This is an opportunity (for herself and others) to find out just how dangerous Vanessa can be when enticed by true darkness, and potentially learn a little more about her hidden trauma. This is also an opportunity for her to learn some of the darkest secrets of others in-game, and show that she'd never reject them no matter how bad they get.

I expect fallout and repercussions when all is said and done, and am fine with this leading to negative CR for some.

( Continued from HERE. )

There is going to be a confrontation at the cottage in the woods by event's end! This is for furthering plotting on the battle for the next event log, so anything already discussed can potentially be changed or added to.

Ree has been fantastic in setting up a Google Doc to summarize what has been covered so far, and if there is anything you feel pertinent to your character's contribution, it is open to edit.

Feel free to keep plotting here! I'll include a comment below for what we have so far, and will keep it updated as things change.

( BATTLE LOG! )

The main layout so far is:
• Two cairns out front will initially prevent any magic users or non-humans from crossing over
Rowena will eventually manage to damage these these and then try to weaken Vanessa
Vanessa will:
↪ be casting compulsion on Anakin to turn on his allies (very temporary)
↪ be compelling a few wolves from the woods to attack
↪ be casting illusions that will feed into the fears of anyone who hasn't already overcome their darkness
↪ have deathstalker scorpions around as a constant threat to be aware of (yes they will try to sting!)
Aelwyn and Gorgug will be defending Vanessa, and may be taking on most of the combat while Vanessa works her magic from the background
Aelwyn can use a lot of powerful magic that will both be protecting Vanessa and attacking others
Gorgug will be more of a physical fighter, but he has also set up magic traps in the forest on the way to the cottage, and has a warding bond to absorb any injuries to Vanessa that might break through Aelwyn's defenses
Riz and Fabian will be confronting Gorgug
Rowena will be using magic to break through the barrier and then may need to deal with Aelwyn
Anakin might be wanting Vanessa dead once he shakes off the compulsion
Linhardt will be nearby cataloging what's going on, and ready to prevent deaths if he can
Otto will be able to cross the cairns in theory, but may have others to contend with first
Aelwyn will be betraying Vanessa at the last minute, before anyone else can reach her, stabbing her in the back with a spectral sword and then attempting to absorb the Im'mari from her
↪ Gorgug may take some of the damage with his warding bond, thus leaving him and Vanessa both near death
↪ Absorbing the Im'mari will take a moment and potentially disorient and weaken Aelwyn, leaving her open to retaliation
↪ Rowena may magically knock Aelwyn away before she can finish the absorption, allowing Lin to heal Vanessa
↪ Vanessa will still be partially infected and may need it cut out

vanessa will be attempting a compulsion on anakin and i want to say initially it'll work. however this is the sort of thing he is trained against and it's really only when he decides to be evil that he sticks with it 😬

so maybe a few distracted attempts at attacking others until he manages to shake it off. however once that's done he's going to be so mad making it a lot more difficult to talk him down if others want to go the more non-violent route.

Oh no the boy is mad!

The cairns should initially prevent him from retaliation, but once Rowena gets them down all bets are off. The thing is any force choking attempts MAY be blocked by Aelwyn's protection spell, and if not then Gorgug would suffer the consequences.

'ello 'ello! i think gorgug's part in this is largely covered, he is going to get attacked by some pals long enough that he can get pinned and freed of his infection, which at that point he'll be too exhausted to contribute either way.

one addition that's come up, depending on what people do or can't, etc, is him having a warding bond with vanessa: this will allow him to absorb damage on vanessa's behalf, which while he's in his rage state (before he becomes exhausted, it's easy for him to tank any damage, esp if linhardt is helping to heal!!

this is basically a way that vanessa could suffer a fatal blow without it being deadly, but will also put both gorgug and vanessa on the brink! so there's a chance to either 1) save vanessa after someone goes for stabbing her or 2) go in there and kill her for realsies i guess!!!

(also pls save gorgug thank u)

gorgug taking the damage will be obvious, and the only way of dispelling the magic (afaik) is by breaking what's keeping the connection (items) or by gorgug being nearly dead to begin with. which i am avoiding the latter bc castmates will cry. :(

oh but if you want a chance to stab gorgug or w/e, let me know??

i think either way our guys will be tussling a bit! either he's trying to kill vanessa and the damage gets sent his way or due to gorgug actively trying to interfere and anakin going COOL I'LL JUST GO THROUGH YOU THEN

unfortunately his laser sword means this is not a normal stabbing so i wanted to check in how we should deal with it.

[personal profile] tinflower 2024-09-28 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
IT'S GOOD, we both have ridiculous weapons. anakin i believe won't be able to get to vanessa immediately bc of the cairns, so gorgug will be in the way first! i'm fine with gorgug getting stabbed or slashed by the weapon -- he can take ridiculous hits because of his canon.

gorgug will also have a large adamantine heavy axe on him, so anakin will have to deal with that in turn. a quick google says that most lightsabers can't cut through it, if that's what anakin has?? and gorgug will also be deploying use of flash grenades.

if he's going in trying to kill, then there is the group of people who will be like "noo anakin don't do that :(" that could come up somewhere along the way. tho, you know, guy with giant axe swinging on you is a Problem. gorgug will have a few other people also interested in him, so just. waves hands. also want to know how you wanna deal with this weapon in turn, what you want to happen or not happen.

Wrong account but one thing I wanted to clarify is that, since Aelwyn is working with Vanessa and Gorgug, I assume she would be aware of what Gorgug's plan is with regard to the warding bond, so it wouldn't come as a total surprise to her?

She doesn't want to kill Gorgug because he's Adaine's friend or whatever

HMM, it's a toss up for me as i'm not sure how much they would have talked about what they would do if anyone came after vanessa. gorgug himself is not a planning guy, so the conversation would not have been on his end.

what do you think? i haven't been assuming gorgug knows anything about what aelwyn is doing, even while she is on their side.

Random notes based on here and the GDoc:

Mentioned in the GDoc, but Linhardt would be trying to stop attempts on anyone's life, and that includes Vanessa's - he does have the raw magical power to disrupt Aelwyn's shield if he knows about it - but he's not going to jump straight to those magics because he doesn't like hurting people, so it could also be useless if we want Vanessa to die or they want another resolution!

Lin's also going to be coordinating with Riz and Fabian on the Gorgug problem - might show up with them? He's about to discuss his magical background with Riz, so Riz knows and might bring Lin along?

He's also perfectly willing to attack non-people and provide other logistical support, so Linhardt would attack the summoned elementals, blow back some of the grenades once he figures out they're bad news, and would be trying to keep the battlefield clear and transversible. He'll only attack other people if someone is attacking him and not letting flee or is literally about to kill someone else.

(RIP if one of those grenades blown back forks with the cottage)

Aelwyn is going to be right next to Vanessa when this happens, so the attack will be pretty instantaneous and nobody should be expecting it since they're supposed to be allies.

I am not set on her dying (also not against it), but Gorgug should 100% be helped first and would probably be closer to Lin anyway. It just depends on how quick Lin can be with healing Gorgug before reaching her, and if he has the ability to heal them both (or if we have another healer around if he can't??)

if it comes to a choice, just as an idea, gorgug can tank the damage longer and have a moment to try and convince linhardt to go to vanessa first by forcing himself into a rage to stop the bleeding, since i imagine linhardt would have been healing gorgug during the fight, and he in general (even when not in a rage) can tank hits better -- so he would have a decent chunk of health. he's just exhausted when he stops fighting.

plus between the two of them, one of them got stabbed visually and the other didn't.

i love dramatics.

(Well, stop throwing grenades then?! Obviously not.)

Oh yeah, he can totally ignore/not notice it, I only brought it up because it was a question on the GDoc so if it mattered for anyone else's plotting I wanted to mention it! :)

Mechanically, he'd likely be able to heal them both - he has healing magic that he can use over a fair distance and not just immediately beside him + can sense life energy so he can tell if someone is hurt - but obviously that takes the super back seat to the drama of it all. If Aelwyn's sudden but inevitable betrayal needs to work and kill Vanessa, then it will! (And then I can make Lin stew about not being good enough anyway and who doesn't love a good stew?)

rowena updates!!

rowena will probably be one of the first there, scouting largely outside of the cottage and trying to poke at vanessa, distract and disorient her a little. she'll be able to sense that others are coming and since she's not a fan of a mob situation she'll be trying to weaken vanessa before too much else happens.

rowena isn't looking to kill vanessa at all during this, she can tell that what vanessa is doing isn't her own power, hence why she's only trying to weaken/knock her out (even if she's keeping her witch-killing spell in her back pocket).

when the others arrive rowena will largely ignore them, she's not getting into further tussles (and vanessa will also be doing some illusion magic to distract rowena). the only difference on this would be when aelwyn turns on vanessa. when aelwyn swaps to attacking her to try and take the im'mari rowena would switch her focus to her, trying to get her out of the way (telekinetic throw? sleep? something) to prevent vanessa dying after aelwyn has attacked her.

rowena does also have healing spells to help vanessa out (but would make sure there are no other threats happening first).

In the very beginning I don't think Vanessa would want Aelwyn or Gorgug interfering with Rowena, since Vanessa DOES like to fight her own battles. Even if one or both of the cairns are taken out, Vanessa would still go after Rowena herself, feeling confident she'd be fine

until others show up, then it'll be chaos!

Personally I am okay with interference once Aelwyn has done the betrayal. The player mentioned that absorbing the Im'mari wouldn't be instantaneous after stabbing her, and that doing so would disorient her, so I think there is potential for interruption there?

If so, that could mean she doesn't absorb it 100% which would still leave me with a fraction of tentacle fun in that regard, since I was originally hoping for Vanessa to deal with her own personal exorcism either during or after the battle

I will ping Cass for this idea! I think (hope) it is a good way to allow both Aelwyn and Vanessa to have their little villain arc

Jason Todd | Batman: Wayne Family Adventures

[personal profile] leastdramatic 2024-09-28 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Pinky
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] angriestbird, PM, or Discord!
Pacing: For this month, I'm leaning towards slower and always open to backtagging.
Limits: Nope! Open season here.

Character Name: Jason Todd
Fear Manifestation: There are 2 major fears Jason has. One is the Joker because he was Jason's torturer and murder. Jason's other fear is losing control and backsliding into being a vicious killer again that hurts or scares off his loved ones. I'm tentatively thinking that the manifestation is Jason hearing the Joker everywhere and keeps thinking he's catching glimpses or shadows of him. The more it goes on, the more Jason's lashes out from fear and feeling out of control. And then he also starts to hearing and hallucinating his friends and family rejecting him and telling him he really is broken because he's lashing again.

This can be serious enough to turn into a short fight if interested?

Infection Involvement: Going to hold off on this since he only just arrived.
Goals: I always love exploring a character's deeper issues and just want to see what happens in the aftermath.

Alice | Nie Huaisang

[personal profile] illicitly 2024-09-28 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Alice
Player Contact: Discord (mimarinrin or you can just DM me through the server, I'm set to invisible so just leave a message), or just drop me a comment here.
Pacing: I'm usually a mix of styles. I prefer to boomerang conversation threads (not just network ones) via dialogue-focused, minimal action spam threads to get through the threads faster, especially when my character is just started to get acquainted with yours. I'm also fine with slower, meatier tags, too, particularly if the characters have developed a deeper bond. I'll backtag forever so long as there's interest. I do prefer to start slow and small and complete threads before adding more to my pile. Ideally, I like to boomerang a handful of threads to completion and take on news ones as each one gets finished so I don't overwhelm myself by splitting my attention too many ways at once.
Limits: Not really. I'm pretty open on this one.

Character Name: Nie Huaisang (aka Huaisang or NHS if you're feeling especially lazy)
Fear Manifestation: Most of Huaisang's anxieties at the moment are centered around fears of inadequacy. His greatest fear is screwing up so badly that he gets his followers annihiliated. Currently, he's afraid of failing the tests in Etraya just in general resulting in his whole world and everyone in it being deleted from existence. The existential horror scenario he's found himself in aligns pretty well with his issues. So I'm fine with keeping it simple and just focusing on that for this mission. Update: Adding another option since it came up while plotting with someone privately. Huaisang's got a few memories and a lot of fears that can work well for horror scenarios such as being trapped and defenseless in a cave with a giant, maneating turtle and having to find a way to escape with enemies in wait to pick you off as you exit and violent massacre. A symbolic beast loosely based on Taotie representing something similar to a family curse he has a lot of anxiety over might make a fun Silent Hill-esque pursuer if that's anyone's cup of tea. For something lighter, he has a lot of test-related anxiety from flunking school a bunch when he was a teenager, too.

Infection Involvement: Again, gonna keep things simple here and just opt for Stage 1 since both mun and muse are getting acclimated to the game.
Goals: My goal for this event is mostly just getting Huaisang established as a character in the setting and integrated with other characters. I have a bunch of ideas for possible ways to kick off CR: rescuing him from being dragged into the river, wandering around lost in the city because he doesn't know this place at all and doesn't know where to begin looking for the safe zones at, him attempting to rescue others from what he'll probably interpret as dark spirits via Daoist magic, bumbling his way into going after the cursed objects. I have some prompts in mind but there's a wildcard option.

Hikaru Shidou | Magic Knight Rayearth

[personal profile] godkaru 2024-09-29 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Space
Player Contact: Either commenting here or [plurk.com profile] spacemoth!
Pacing: As I'm still getting my feet into the game, probably a bit slower with backtagging!
Limits: Only real limits are no images/videos of spiders, and no pregnancy/medical/dental horror.

Character Name: Hikaru Shidou
Fear Manifestation: Probably the biggest major fear Hikaru has is related to her regret from having to kill someone very important in another world without fully understanding what she was doing! And then watching that world start to fall apart because of it. She is always going to be a little afraid of causing more suffering for no reason and of letting other countries invading Cefiro fall into the same unending cycle, so her manifestation would probably manifest as images and hallucinations of her friends hating her for what she's done, and of a small blonde girl asking why Hikaru did it.
Infection Involvement: She will likely stay uninfected as she's still very new!
Goals: Focusing on! CR Building! And really making her take a minute to sit and focus on what she's feeling given the canon point she's pulled from.

Sleeper | Marvel Comics

[personal profile] definecat 2024-09-29 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Bugly
Player Contact: [plurk.com profile] Bugly42 or Bugly42 on Discord (I'm always invis but keep an eye on things)
Pacing: I try to reply as quickly as I can, and can sometimes boomerang pretty well, but every now and then I get bogged down on exactly how to respond. If it's been a couple days, feel free to reach out.
Limits: I'm pretty good with what's going on as far as fear and darkness. Their corner of the Marvel universe is one of the darker ones.

Character Name: Sleeper
Fear Manifestation: Sleeper's big fears are things like being utterly incapacitated by sound, being captured, and being controlled by outside forces. They're not really one for specific items or people, but the specter of beings like Knull or Tel'Kar could be a possibility, as well as the symbiote containment vessels that places like the Life Foundation use to capture and experiment on them.
Infection Involvement: As they're very new, I think I'm going to skip the infection.
Goals: Sleeper needs to meet folks and find reasons to get involved with things. They're going to be trying to gather information and figure things out, although they distrust Aurora and Echo right now because anyone who has the power to do this kind of thing is not to be trusted, no matter their reasoning. Sure, they love their universe and certain things and people in it, but, well, how is being here going to do that? And just what is going on?

Vincent Smith | Silent Hill 3

[personal profile] banworthy 2024-10-01 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Player Name: Ruri.
Player Contact: PM or marvelouscheers @ discord.
Limits: Nope.

Character Name: Vincent Smith.
Fear Manifestation: He has a few fears. One is the birth of the entity that Claudia was attempting to call forth. It'd probably be something that'd be like Valtiel - crawling along the ceilings or through a mirror/window; just on the other side of a transparent wall to see. The overwhelming presence of something that is suffocating as the world starts to melt away to rust and blood.

The other would be damned to Hell. Not that he isn't already feeling that with where he is and the impossible task that he's been given. It's ripe for that sort of mentality. He is the sort of person that would get more irate the more he is pushed. While not a violent person, he can just be vile to talk to as he tries to find what a person is most sensitive and weak about before attacking it.

Infection Involvement: He's new so not gonna give him into the infection.
Goals: Just figuring out his place and getting into the game; gaining some CR; he's going to be attempting to find people that he can add to his roster to do his "dirty work" whenever he happens to find dirty work. But also those that he can rely on for information and investigate with to figure out what is going on.
